NBYC 2010 Dinghy Racing Program (Plan "B")
Introduction
The 2010 dinghy racing program is designed to use the club wayfarers and personal dinghy’s for club
racing this year even though our keel boats are high and dry.
Our hope is to have a lot of fun .….get out on the water and do some racing!!
This is Plan “B” for 2010, if the water comes up during June..we will revert to plan “A”. Since Tuesday
and Thursday evening were originally planed for keel boat racing and cruising, we will use those days
for alternative fun in the dinghy’s.
The Plan
· 4 dinghy races per week.
· 2 Tuesday night and 2 Thursday night.
· The 2 club wayfarers will have 8 available positions or slots for crew teams to
sign up for and go racing.
· Each team will be able to race once per week (teams can be made up of 2 or 3
members).
· We will have a June series, a July series and an August series of 16 races each.
· The club wayfarer teams will have 4 races for each series (no drops).
· Members that have their own dinghy’s can join in and race (number of races to enter is variable, see format below)
· If all club wayfarer team positions are not filled, the signed up teams mayenter in the vacant position if consulted
with the race committee.
· Race days could be switched within teams to suit personal schedules
Format
Since we have all different levels of dingy sailors and different boats and situations, there will be one
main overall fleet, were everybody is dumped in together. Secondary fleets within the main fleet are:
a Club Fleet and an owners Fleet . This will hopefully keep a fun environment , racing against equal
competitors and equipment.
· The NBYC sailing instructions will generally govern (with some exceptions)
· Portsmouth handicap system will be used for scoring. (DPN)
· No handicap system (as they cross the line) will also be tabulated and scored.
· We will have a Club Fleet (all club wayfarer teams)
· We will have a Owners Fleet (experienced owners of their own boats)
· Owners of dinghy’s may chose to race 4 races per series, 8 races per series or
16 races per series (8 races will require 4 drops – top 2 and bottom 2) 16 races
will require the boat to be entered twice (some rules and regulations will apply)
· Awards will be for Overall across the line order, Overall Portsmouth handicap,
Fleet Portsmouth handicap and most improved (in July and August)
The Race
· Each race will be short (approximately 30 to 45 minutes)
· Race one would start at 6:00, Race two at 7:15
· Club boats would be rigged by the first team (6:00 race)
· Club boats would be handed off after the first race is completed (at pier 1) to
the second team racing the 7:15 race
· The second team would put the boats away after racing
· Each race length and course will be adjusted day to day depending on
conditions.
· Starts/Finishes will be provided by the Race committee (Ken Cork)
· Skippers meeting at 5:45 (2nd race participants can ask starter for info)
· The start finish will be at the Club light/cottage flagpole
· 5 min horn/flag, 1 min horn/flag down, start horn/flag
Additional Various Info
· Owner boats will need proof of insurance
· Life jackets should be worn at all times
· We would like to rotate safety boat operators through the fleet
· Fees etc will go towards Dinghy upgrades
· We would like to get covers for the boats and leave rigged
· Dinghy parking on the grass (1st area as you enter driveway, both sides)
· A sign out sheet for club wayfarers will be posted in Club house
(9 till 1:00, 1;00till 5:00 and 5:00 till 9:00…except Tuesdays and Thursdays)
· A repair sheet will be posted in clubhouse for wayfarer problems noticed
· There will not be flying and non flying fleets
· We will try to have pizza and beer upstairs in club house on Tuesdays
· Team names for club wayfarer teams would be nice..think about it.
· Mark numbers 2, 3 and 4 will be put in to assist in course selections
· Racers are expected to help maintain/clean wayfarers
· We will adjust the July and August series from experience and feedback
· Canada day regatta ..two wayfarers for two teams..plan ahead
· Wayfarer weekend has Long Distance Race, Don Rumble series and Trout lake
poker run..plan ahead for registration (two teams per event)
· a clinic will be available to teach and make newcomers to dinghy’s feel
comfortable (Tuesday June 1st )

· Racing fees will be collected before the first race (cheque only)
